Crysis Reading and Playing Order
The Crysis series, which holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers has numerous titles including both games and books. In this article, we’ve listed the books and games in the Crysis series in chronological order for you.
Crysis | Game (2007)
The year is 2020, and we control Nomad, a nanosuit-wearing soldier on a hostage rescue mission to the North Korean-occupied Lingshan Islands. An American research team has discovered some mysterious things on the island that will change the world forever.
You can purchase the 2007 version of the game on GOG. Alternatively, you can buy the Crysis Maximum Edition on Steam, which includes Crysis Warhead as a single package. If you want to play without purchasing, the game is available through EA Play and Game Pass subscriptions. Additionally, there’s a remastered version of Crysis released in 2020 called Crysis Remastered. This version has fixed some bugs from the 2007 game and updated the graphics.
Crysis Warhead | Game (2008)
In the later parts of the first game, our character Nomad’s Raptor Team was split into two due to various events. In this game, we control the other part of the team, namely Psycho. Psycho is trying to stop Colonel Lee, who commands the Korean army on Lingshan Island.

Crysis | Comic Book (2011)
After the events of the first Crysis game, Nomad, Psycho, and Helena Rosenthal return to the island to help Prophet. This 6-issue comic book series reveals what Prophet did while alone on the island and uncovers mysteries about Hargreave-Rasch Biochemical, the company that produced the nanosuits.

Crysis 2 | Game (2011)
Three years after the first game, in 2023, the Ceph have attacked Earth again. In the years that have passed, Prophet, our team leader from the first game, has learned a lot about the Ceph. However, he paid for this knowledge with his life. In the game, we control a marine named Alcatraz. Before dying, Prophet passed on his nanosuit and missions to Alcatraz. Alcatraz’s mission is to stop the Ceph invasion and take down CELL.
You can purchase Crysis 2 on Steam or play it through EA Play and Game Pass subscriptions. Additionally, there’s an updated version of Crysis 2 called Crysis 2 Remastered released in 2021. This version includes various bug fixes and graphical improvements.
Crysis Legion | Book (2011)
Crysis Legion is a direct book adaptation of the second game. Throughout the game, our main character Alcatraz couldn’t speak due to damage to his vocal cords. In this book, we learn about his reactions to events and his thoughts and feelings about everything that’s happening.

Crysis Escalation | Book (2013)
Crysis Escalation covers the events that occurred during the 24 years between the second and third games. The book consists of 9 stories compiled together. Among these stories, we learn about Prophet forming a team with Psycho and other nanosuit soldiers to hunt down the Alpha Ceph, CELL destroying half of London, and many other events.

Crysis 3 | Game (2013)
The year is 2047. CELL has seized power and spread across the world in a dystopian manner. Psycho, whom we know from the first games, is a member of a resistance organization formed against CELL. The resistance rescues Prophet, who has been imprisoned for years, and starts a rebellion against CELL. In the game where we control Prophet, we try to both stop CELL and find out where CELL obtained this power.
It’s not possible to purchase Crysis 3 today. However, you can play the game through EA Play and Game Pass subscriptions. Additionally, there’s a version of the game released in 2021 called Crysis 3 Remastered which has fixed various bugs. You can purchase this version.
Crysis 4 | Game (20XX)
In 2022, Crytek announced a new game in the Crysis series. Neither a release date nor any details about the game have been announced. In the announcement made with the game’s reveal, it was stated that the game was still in the early stages of development. So it looks like we’ll have to wait many years for the new game.
